NYPD Blue star Austin Majors died of accidental fentanyl overdose, autopsy report reveals after his death at age 27

NYPD Blue child star Austin Majors died of an accidental fentanyl overdose, autopsy results have revealed.

The findings, released by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday, revealed that Majors’ cause of death was fentanyl toxicity, TMZ reported.

The manner has been categorized as accidental and the place of his death was listed as ‘residence’.

Majors died at the age of 27 while staying at a Los Angeles homeless shelter in February.

At the time of his death, TMZ reported that Majors “may have taken a lethal amount of fentanyl.”

The family released a statement to TMZ at the time of his death: “(Austin) was a loving, artistic, brilliant and kind human being. Austin was very happy and proud of his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated Salutatorian in high school. He then graduated from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion for directing and producing music.’

“Austin’s younger sister Kali says her fondest memories of Austin were growing up on set with him, volunteering at ‘Kids With A Cause’ events, and backpacking together,” the statement continued.

Kali is also an actress; she is an aspiring film writer, producer and director.

“Austin was the child of son, brother, grandson and nephew that we are proud of and will forever miss him greatly,” it read.

On September 20, 2020, Austin shared on his Instagram a photo of his SAG-AFTRA card, which stated that he had been a member since 2000.

He captioned it: ‘Woah! Just paid dues and realized I’ve been a member of SAG (now @sagaftra) for 2 decades. What a beautiful ride it has been. I never dreamed that I would still be alive so many years later… let alone what effect this would have. My first union job was a commercial for @bountypapertowels, the faster picker upper! haha) I’m proud/shocked by this apparent time warp & somehow it still feels like the journey is just beginning 🙂 Keep it 100 fam.’

Austin starred as Theo Sipowicz on NYPD Blue for seven seasons; he played Detective Andy Sipowicz’s son, who was played by Dennis Franz.

Austin won the Young Artists Award for Best Performance in a Television Series for his work in NYPD Blue in 2002.

The actor was also nominated for Best Performance in a Voice Over Role for Treasure Planet.

He was born Austin Setmajer on November 23 in California.

Austin graduated second in his class in high school in 2013 and then attended school at the University of Southern California, at the School of Cinematic Arts – majoring in film and television production with a minor in music production.

Austin was also part of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at USC.

He has been part of Kids With A Cause since 2005.

Austin’s first role was in the 1997 movie Nevada, playing a young boy.

He next starred in The Price of Air in 2000, Providence in 2001, Treasure Planet in 2002, Bananas in 2004 – before landing the role of Theo in NYPD Blue.

He starred as Theo in 48 episodes from 1999 to 2004.

From there, Austin went on to star in Volare in 2004, ER for one episode in 2005, Hercules for two episodes in 2005, and Little Manhattan in 2005.

He had small roles in Bye Bye Benjamin, Threshold, According to Jim, NCIS, The Ant Bully, American Dad!, Dead Silence, The Gray Man and Desperate Housewives between 2005 and 2007.

Austin played Will Wright in the TV movie An Accidental Christmas in 2007, Hank in Night Writer in 2007, and How I Met Your Mother for one episode in 2009 – for his final roles.
