NYC subway line plunged into chaos as person is struck ‘and killed’ by train at Astor Place station

One person was reportedly killed by a New York City subway train just before the system's busy evening rush hour.

The person was struck along the 4/5/6 line at the Astor Place stop.

Emergency services are on site to reach the injured person.

Police say the person was pronounced dead after being pinned under the train.

The 4/5/6 trains start in Lower Manhattan and reach 125th Street in East Harlem. The incident was reported at 464 Lafayette Street.

There is no southbound 6 train service at 33 St, 28 St, 23 St, Astor Pl, Bleeker St, Spring St and Canal St, NYCT Subway, posted on X (formally known as Twitter)

There are now six southbound trains running from Grand Central-42 St to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall.

The MTA made announcements about the incident and delays on their social media and via their app, saying the 4/5/6 is expected to be disrupted “until at least 6:10 p.m.”

People on social media have complained about lengthy delays during rush hour.

One person posted: 'Yo @NYCTSubway- the rush hour trains are (s***)! There was a 7 minute wait for uptown 6 on 23rd Street. So I walk to the yellow line at 23. The next Astoria, on the way W, is 10 minutes away!!”

“I waited on a stationary train for 15 minutes until they moved it one stop and then told us the train was turning around,” said another.
