NYC socialite Jose Castelo Branco, 61, is arrested for assaulting diamond heiress wife, 95, who he shares a wardrobe with after she asked hospital staff to ‘save her’
- The moderately successful singer was jailed in Portugal earlier this month
- Vague claims have been made about the condition of the elderly diamond heiress
José Castelo Branco, a socialite and generally fashionable man from the city, was imprisoned in Portugal after being accused of assault by his diamond heiress wife.
Page six reports that Castelo Branco, 61, claims he is innocent after being sent to jail for assaulting his wife, Betty Grafstein.
The pair, known for sharing a loud and expensive wardrobe, have been making waves on the social scene for years, thanks in large part to their looks and somewhat shocking age difference.
According to Page Six, Grafstein was admitted to a local hospital in the small town of Cascais in April with what was only described as “various ailments.”

Grafstein reportedly “asked hospital staff to ‘save’ her from her husband’s abuse.”
Castela Branco was arrested on May 7 and released, but is ‘not allowed to visit his wife’.
Despite the suspicious situation, Grafstein’s husband has continued to post messages of support for her on his social media profiles, asking followers to “pray for her.”
Among other things, Castelo Branco is a fairly successful singer in Portugal, having appeared on popular reality shows in the laid-back European country.
He identifies as a man, although he looks and is often thought to be a woman due to his extremely feminine style and makeup.
Last year, Castelo Branco told The Sun US that strangers on the Internet and elsewhere are constantly giving him a hard time about his marriage, which has lasted since 1996.
“I live on her money, I can’t wait for her to die,” he told others.
“I get the most and real bullying,” he added.
Grafstein added that she finds the negative claims “appalling.”

The couple has been raising eyebrows in the New York City social scene for years for a variety of reasons, including the apparent reality that the pair share a wardrobe.
Grafstein was previously married to Albert Grafstein, the owner and operator, along with his brother, of the Grafstein Diamond Corporation.
The couple bought a house together in Portugal, where Betty subsequently met Castelo Blanco after Albert’s death.
