‘I really didn’t mean it’: NYC driver with 160 traffic violations offers dispassionate apology as he is convicted of an accident that killed a three-month-old girl and injured her mother

A New York City driver with 160 traffic violations issued an emotionless apology when he was convicted of an accident that killed a three-month-old girl and injured her mother.
Tyrik Mott, 30, told the Brooklyn Supreme Court he “really didn’t mean it” after being sentenced to nine years in September 2021 for the murder of little Apolline Mong Guillemin.
He pleaded guilty to manslaughter, attempted robbery, reckless driving and other charges and accepted a plea deal, converting his potential 15-year sentence to a nine-year sentence.
He told the court on Wednesday: “I’m just sorry for everything I’ve done. I’m sorry for all the pain I’ve caused. I really didn’t mean it,” he said NY Post.

One of the cars drove onto the sidewalk and crashed into a stroller carrying a three-month-old baby being pushed by her mother. The child died
Mott wore gray sweatpants and a black hoodie for his audience. He had not been in jail since the incident, having posted $150,000 bail in February 2022.
The killer tried to ask for extra time before sentencing, but was unable to give a reason when asked by the judge.
The fatal crash occurred on September 11, 2021, when Mott drove away from police after failing to stop at a red light, going the wrong way on Gates Avenue and crashing into a car.
The collision sent both cars onto the sidewalk where Julien Mong and Marion Guillemin pushed their daughter’s stroller and crashed into them.
After the crash, Mott attempted to steal a 2020 Hyundai from a 41-year-old man in an attempt to get away, prosecutors said at his hearing at the time.
Mott had been arrested three times before and had his driver’s license suspended.

He has also had 91 school speeding tickets since 2017, with 35 before 2021, according to Eric Adams.
When he was arrested, he would have asked officers if he could just get away with a ticket.
The parents claimed they both required surgery after the crash, which left Guillemin permanently disfigured and suffering from traumatic brain injury.
In 2022, they filed a lawsuit against the city and Mott, pleading not guilty to manslaughter charges, with the parents claiming that the city had violated its own Reckless Driver Accountability Act.
The 2020 law allows police to seize any car with at least 15 speed camera tickets or five red light tickets over a 12-month period, which would apply to Mott as he has 160 traffic violations as of June 2017 including 35 for speeding in school zones.
