The New York Red Bulls and San Jose Earthquakes tied 1–1 after New York scored a tie in the 17th minute of extra time.
The two sides played no less than 21 minutes of extra time, for reasons that were not immediately clear.
New York has now played three straight games without recording a win.
But it could have been worse if Tom Barlow hadn’t equalized for the Red Bulls in the 17th minute.
The Quakes thought victory and three points were theirs when Christian Espinoza scored in the 80th minute.
