Nvidia RTX 5090 rumors continue to suggest that this graphics card will not only be powerful, but will somehow be miraculously slim
Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5090 has once again set tongues wagging on the subject of how slim the next-generation flagship could be.
VideoCardz noted that Kopite7kimi, a regular on
While you might think that in itself isn’t exactly slim, it is Certainly is for a flagship GPU. The RTX 4090 takes up three or more slots and takes up enormous amounts of space in the PC case it is installed in.
The leaker goes on to explain that the RTX 5090 will be a dual-fan card, so we’re looking at a dual-slot, dual-fan cooler to keep the temperatures of the Blackwell flagship GPU in check.
Analysis: Efficiency in spades
For those who follow heavy GPUs, this rumor may be hard to believe – and of course we have to show plenty of skepticism here (that goes for any pre-release speculation).
However, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a slimmer RTX 5090, apparently due to a very different design approach Nvidia is taking with its flagship graphics card this time around. The source of that rumor already mentioned a dual-slot cooling solution (and that 32GB VRAM could be the memory configuration for the 5090).
As we’ve noted before, with the RTX 5090 expected to make a big performance leap, this begs the question of how much power it will use – and how good the cooling will need to be if it becomes a more compact version. solution in the next generation flagship.
Kopite7kimi won’t comment on the RTX 5090’s potential power consumption, but does participation: “I am sure the cooling design is more efficient.” This certainly piques our interest, as the RTX 5090 could not only advance in terms of gaming GPU performance, but could do so while being slimmed down – significantly. This would solve one of our biggest problems with the RTX 4090, which was being able to fit the huge thing into a PC case that isn’t the size of an airplane hanger.
Does this all sound too good to be true? Well, to be fair it is, but we’ll just have to wait and see, even if we may have to wait longer than is ideal as the RTX 5080 might be the first Blackwell GPU to be released if the basics are right. . (That said, the RTX 5090 may not be far behind even in this case).
