Nvidia RTX 4080 Super graphics card spotted again, hinting it may turn up sooner than expected
Nvidia’s RTX 4080 Super graphics card has been spotted in a popular system monitoring tool, ahead of a possible release in the not-too-distant future (we hope).
The entry for the GeForce RTX 4080 Super was spotted in HWiNFO. The graphics card is listed under the upcoming changes section as follows: “Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super added.”
This is another solid hint that this updated RTX 4080 is arriving from Team Green, on top of a host of others we’ve seen lately.
If Tom’s hardware According to reports, this follows another similar sighting of the RTX 4080 Super in a PCI ID repository earlier this week. As you’ve no doubt noticed, there are a lot of rumors going around about Nvidia’s Super refreshes supposedly in the works, and a few refreshed RTX 4070s are also expected.
In theory, the RTX 4080 Super will be joined by an RTX 4070 Super and an RTX 4070 Ti Super (the latter would be a first for Nvidia, combining both suffixes in what, in our opinion, is a somewhat confusing naming scheme).
Analysis: Taking on AMD’s RX 7900 in grand style – and faster than we thought?
This is far from concrete evidence that the RTX 4080 Super graphics card is indeed on the rise, but as noted, in addition to all the other buzz that has abounded lately, it seems very likely at this point that Nvidia has Super variants planned . .
The likelihood of this happening is also heightened by the current GPU situation Nvidia finds itself in. Namely the RTX 4080 which flopped quite a bit – with terrible sales, if the rumors from retailers are to be believed – and AMD making a profit with its RX 7900 models as a result.
Therefore, it makes sense that Nvidia would want to change this situation – after all, what happened with the RTX 4080 is quite embarrassing (especially if you remember the ‘unlaunched’ version with 12 GB VRAM, which made Team Green look quite foolish) . So to compete in the upper mid to high end, Nvidia needs these spins on the RTX 4080 and 4070, we’d argue.
The latest rumors on the cost front indicate that Nvidia could opt for a pricing scheme that will really worry AMD, with the possibility of an RTX 4080 Super for $999 (the RTX 4080 in this case would effectively are being discontinued), and RTX 4070 Super for $599. That’s the best-case scenario, mind you, and Nvidia hasn’t decided on price yet, or even exact specs, we’re told – but the opportunity to become super competitive ( ahem) with the value proposition apparently exists.
The specs that are supposedly up in the air may still indicate that these refreshed Lovelace graphics cards are still a ways off, but we’ve heard rumors around a relatively early 2024 launch – and these Super references are popping up here and there and are a tantalizing hint that the products may arrive sooner than expected. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for that, and the best-case pricing, the latter of which could mean this offering ranks high on our best graphics cards list.
