Nvidia RTX 4080 price cut in UK suggests GPU might get even cheaper soon

>

Now don’t look – well look really, or you’ll have trouble reading the rest of this article – but the Nvidia RTX 4080 graphics card has now dropped below MSRP (recommended price) in the UK, and significantly lower in a case.

That would be at retailer AWD-IT (opens in new tab)those if video cardz (opens in new tab) reports, the Palit RTX 4080 has reduced GameRock to £1,099.99, which is £99 less than the official UK MSRP. As the retailer points out, it’s actually a 23% discount from the previous asking price of £1,429.99, and this is apparently a limited time offer (or ‘crispy deal’ as AWD-IT puts it).

This isn’t the only sign of a downward price move for the RTX 4080 in the UK, as Overclockers are Palit GameRock (opens in new tab) (OmniBlack model, which is the same as the above, but without RGB lighting) down to £1,169.99, again below RRP.

Beyond eBuyer (opens in new tab) that same graphics card costs £1,179.99, which is still £19 less than the MSRP.

Analysis: A positive omen for those Nvidia price cut rumors?

Is this an offer from Palit that is temporary? Perhaps, but with a drop of a hundred notes below MSRP, which is quite substantial – even if it hardly prompts us to buy the RTX 4080 – this could be a hopeful sign that further price cuts are on the way (not just in the UK). UK, but elsewhere in the world).

As you may recall, the rumor mill believes that Nvidia will be applying a price cut to the RTX 4080 next week, or at least for the foreseeable future, and that already makes sense on a number of levels.

AMD’s next-gen RDNA 3 GPUs hit shelves on December 13, so it would help ensure competitiveness in that regard, and it would also address the clear public perception that Nvidia is charging way too much for the RTX 4080 (and third – party custom models can be particularly ridiculous). We’ve also theorized about other reasons for a 4080 price cut that are indirectly related to the RTX 4070 Ti, basically to ensure that this GPU can be priced viable cheaper than the canceled RTX 4080 12GB, which it’s supposedly virtually identical to (more on that here).

There are many good reasons to believe that Nvidia could – and should – lower the MSRP on the RTX 4080 soon. And this price movement in the UK represents a fairly strong indication that this is exactly what is about to happen.

Given all this, it’s pretty clear that anyone considering the RTX 4080 will have to wait a while to see if an official Nvidia price cut comes into play – and perhaps even more discounts from retailers on top of that. Of course, if that becomes the wider public perception, it will further depress RTX 4080 sales, and increase the likelihood that Nvidia will take price cuts, at least in theory.

Fingers crossed, and while you wait, you can always entertain yourself by looking at the eBay listings of scalpers who are freaking out and trying to sell the RTX 4080 graphics cards they bought with the intention of driving up the price, who are now realizing that they may not even be able to break even – or somewhere close to that perhaps. Get those little violins out now…
