Nutritionist reveals the foods you should eat that could improve your sex life

A professional nutritionist has revealed the foods Australians should be eating that could help improve their sex lives.

Claudia Calisto, founder of Total health and well-beingfocuses on targeting sex hormones such as testosterone, estrogen and progesterone in the treatment of patients with low libido.

Many of the foods Ms. Calisto suggested, including red wine, oysters and nuts, were also included from Healthline list of recommended foods for increased sex drive.

Fruit and vegetables

Her main recommendation for improving sex drive was to include berries in diets.

“Berries are rich in zinc, a mineral that can increase testosterone production in men,” she said.

‘Plus, berries are packed with antioxidants known to increase blood flow to the sexual organs.’

Another fruit that was high on the ingredients list was watermelon, because it contains L-Citrulline, a non-essential amino acid that helps improve blood flow, which could reduce erectile dysfunction.

One green Mrs Calisto urged Australians to eat regularly was broccoli because it contains indole-3-carbinol, which could prevent the development of oestrogen-boosted cancers including breast, endometrial and cervical cancers.

Nuts and seeds

Ms. Calisto also recommended eating three different nuts and seeds: pine nuts, pumpkin seeds and walnuts.

“Pine nuts contain good fats, especially good for men who want an active sex life,” she said.

‘They contain arginine, which helps dilate blood vessels, improve sex drive and can help men maintain an erection.

“Never underestimate pumpkin seeds,” she continued. ‘They are incredibly nutritious and packed with zinc.’

Good fats

Ms. Calisto favors a diet rich in avocados and olive oil, and attributes certain aphrodisiac properties to them.

‘Avocados are considered a natural aphrodisiac as they are extremely high in phytonutrients and help dilate blood flow to the sexual organs,’ said Ms Calisto.

‘Extra virgin olive oil works magically by activating the hormone testosterone, which arouses sexual desires and thus enhances orgasms.

Seafood

Also high on the list were oysters, which Ms. Calisto nicknamed “nature’s aphrodisiac” because of their high zinc content.

“Did you know that with each ejaculation a man loses about a milligram of zinc?” she said.

‘That is why this mineral needs regular supplementation if you want to stay healthy and maintain a good sex drive.’

Herbs and spices

She also recommended two herbs for their libido-boosting properties.

“Saffron is an aphrodisiac herb,” Ms. Calisto said.

‘Chronic stress disrupts hormone balance and can dampen libido. Saffron’s natural compounds can help regulate stress hormones and promote a sense of calm by supporting healthy serotonin levels.

‘Reducing stress levels is a great way to increase libido and overall sexual well-being.

‘Red ginseng also reduces stress, promotes relaxation and greatly improves blood flow to the genitals.’

Drinks

The last four places on Ms. Calisto’s list were devoted to drinks.

“Green tea is rich in compounds called catechins, which promote blood flow and can also help reduce belly fat,” she said.

One or two glasses of red wine can help boost libido, she said.

‘The good news is that organic red wine promotes both male and female libido. It improves the function of the inner lining of the heart and blood vessels and increases blood flow to various parts of the body, including the genitals.”

She also emphasized the importance of drinking water, saying: ‘Staying hydrated through drinking water helps keep blood cells and plasma volume high, which is necessary for a high sex drive.’

The last drink Ms. Calisto recommended was matcha, powdered green tea.

“Matcha is made from shady and young green tea leaves, using the whole tea leaf,” she said.

‘The antioxidants in matcha are more concentrated than green tea. One cup of matcha is equal to three cups of green tea.

‘The antioxidants in the matcha promote blood flow to the genitals and ensure good circulation.’
