Numurkah, Victoria: Teenager, 13, is reunited with her motorised wheelchair after it was stolen by heartless thieves

A teenage girl is 'grateful' to be reunited with her wheelchair after a good Samaritan found the mobility aid days after it was stolen by heartless thieves.

The motorized wheelchair was in her family's silver Hyundai Santa Fe when the car was stolen from the small Victorian town of Numurkah on Thursday.

The wheelchair was imported from the United States and “specially adapted and designed” for the 13-year-old girl.

Local police issued an alert in the hope of finding the $14,000 device which was dumped the next day in Zeerust, about 25km south of the house.

“A member of the public found the motorized wheelchair dumped in Zeerust around lunchtime and took it to Numurkah Police Station,” Victoria Police said.

'Officers were pleased to be able to return the specially adapted and designed wheelchair to its 13-year-old owner in time for Christmas.'

The spokeswoman said the teenager was “grateful” for his return.

The Hyundai, with registration number 1UK-9RO, has not been located and police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

It is believed the vehicle was stolen from Quinn Street sometime between 10pm on Thursday and 9.30am on Friday.
