Number plate banned in NSW because it’s too offensive, but no one knows what’s so rude about it
A car enthusiast who donned his dream ride with personalized license plates has been ordered to take it off because it was deemed too “offensive.”
Larrikin Daniel had to wait 15 months for his Hyundai i30 N to arrive at the dealership, so he jokingly bought the license plates that read ‘W8N4U’ – meaning ‘I am waiting for you’.
While the plates were approved by Transport NSW just four months ago, Daniel received a letter telling him to return them or have his registration cancelled.

Transport NSW told the store employee that the reason for this is that the license plates were deemed ‘offensive’.
Daniel continues to wonder why his harmless records were thought to be explicit or rude in the first place.
“At first I laughed about it, but then I kind of died inside,” Daniel said A current case.
“It’s more than just a plate to me…it makes no sense.”
“I mean there are far worse boards out there, but somehow my boards got flagged for being inappropriate.”
Transport NSW has since apologized to Daniel for allowing the number plates to be issued, blaming a problem with a system error.
“Due to a system error, it could not be determined that plates with this alphanumeric combination had been assigned before this order was placed, and as a result, the letter to the customer did not properly explain why the plates were being recalled,” said a Transport NSW spokesperson.
“The customer will return the plates and receive a full refund of all charges paid, and Transport for NSW has offered to waive the order charge for a new set of plates.”
