NTPC Mining has so far achieved coal production of 23.22 million tonnes (MMT) in FY24, which is higher than the 23.20 million tonnes achieved in the entire financial year 2022-2023.
The milestone was achieved in a record time of 257 days, which was 108 days less than FY23, recording year-on-year growth of 77 percent in coal production and 88 percent in shipments.
NTPC Mining is a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd.
“NTPC Mining Ltd (NML) has surpassed coal production in the current fiscal 24 by producing 23.223 million tonnes as on December 13, 2023, compared to 23.203 million tonnes in fiscal 2022-23,” a company statement said.
As of December 2016, NML's cumulative coal production is over 91 MMT from its four operational captive mines, namely Pakri Barwadih & Chatti-Bariatu coal mines in Jharkhand, Dulanga mine in Odisha and Talaipalli mine in Chhattisgarh.
In its pursuit of sustainable growth in coal production, NTPC has implemented a comprehensive set of strategies and advanced technologies.
These include the application of strict safety measures, improved mine planning, automation of equipment, training of personnel and implementation of continuous monitoring and analysis systems.
These initiatives have played a crucial role in optimizing operations, increasing productivity and ensuring workforce safety.
The Ministry of Coal (MoC) has recognized NML by signing the Memorandum of Understanding between MoC, NTPC Ltd and NML on September 27, 2023, it said.
