Police rescued a man who narrowly escaped death after being stalked by a huge saltwater crocodile on a popular beach.
The beachgoer went for a swim at Nightcliff Jetty in the Northern Territory on Friday night and came face to face with an adult crocodile after surfacing on a rock bar.
Police were rushed to the scene around 7:30 p.m. with reports that a man was being stalked by the bulky predator.

Northern Watch Commander Mick Fields explained that the man was unable to return to shore because the crocodile blocked his escape. NT News reported.
“This escape plan was thwarted by a rather large curious adult crocodile spying on him,” he said.
The man was rescued by officers after they freed him from the rock bar.
“The water police were called and were able to save the man in need from the food,” Commander Fields continued.
The man told officers he had ventured to the rock bar during low tide with the expectation that he would be able to walk back to shore when the water rose.

Commander Fields warned the public to be aware of potential hazards when entering the water.
“Luckily, on this occasion, a situation was narrowly avoided by the police’s quick response,” he said.
Nightcliff Jetty is especially popular with anglers or beachgoers enjoying the sunset at the Top End.
Crocodiles are often spotted in the area.
