A renewed public appeal has been made to find out what happened to an avid fisherman whose mysterious trail has disappeared without a trace.

Zachary Ritz, 45, was last seen in his unit in Inkerman Street, Granville, on October 27, 2021, a year ago this week.

The man from western Sydney was reported missing to police two months later and has not been seen or heard from since.

Police and family are deeply concerned for Mr Ritz’s well-being as he left all his belongings behind and his disappearance was deemed inappropriate.

Strike Force Alleppo is set up to investigate his disappearance, which is being treated suspiciously.

Several extensive searches in the area were conducted by the local Cumberland Police Department with the assistance of detectives and riot police.

NSW Police released recent footage Sunday night of officers searching the nearby bushland, which borders Inkerman Street and the M4, as part of their desperate search for answers.

Detectives are eager to speak to anyone who saw or spoke to Ritz in the days leading up to his disappearance.

“Zachary left all his belongings and personal effects behind,” Chief Inspector Andrew Holland said.

“He’s an avid fisherman and often traveled with friends to regional parts of the state to fish, so detectives are eager to talk to these people who often travel with Zachary.

“Strike Force detectives will continue to conduct physical searches and other investigations to determine Zachary’s whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.”

Mr. Ritz is described as having a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance with a sturdy build, shoulder-length black curly hair and a dark, shabby beard.

He limps and often uses a walking stick.

Mr Ritz is known to frequent the suburbs of Granville, Greenacre, Merrylands and Auburn in the west and south west of Sydney.

He was also previously known as Ehab Taha, Ehab El Jandih and John Sutherland.

Anyone with information on Mr Ritz’s whereabouts is urged to call police.
