A female pedestrian has been seriously injured after she was struck by a police car responding to a call for help.
The incident at around 2.20am on Friday resulted in the woman being rushed from the scene of the accident in South Kempsey to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, more than 150 miles away.
The woman, 39, suffered suspected leg and spinal injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

The 39-year-old was in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
The police officer driving the police car gave a negative roadside breath test.
Police expect to release more details about the incident later on Friday.
A critical incident team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
