NSW hero Brian To’o reveals the incredibly unhealthy meal he’ll have just before State of Origin game three – and which Blues star he’d NEVER let date his sister

  • Blues winger will consume massive amounts of sugar
  • His diet has been called the worst in the NRL

NSW Blues winger Brian To’o has revealed he will down six Coke Zeros just hours before taking to the field for the Origin tie-breaker and has also revealed the name of the team-mate he would never let date a family member.

To’o, who has scored twice so far in this Origin series, is known among his Panthers teammates as having the worst diet in the NRL.

But whatever he does, it works and the laid-back 25-year-old has no plans to change his eating habits ahead of Wednesday night’s decisive match at Suncorp.

“We start with the morning,” To’o said when asked by Channel Nine about his Origin gameday diet.

‘Big breakfast – avocado, about three hash browns, scrambled eggs, bacon, six Coke Zeros, a caramel latte with two sugars and extra caramel syrup.

‘Lunch, I’ll have a ham and cheese sandwich and an energy drink before the game.’

How the cult player stays in top shape while drinking liters of soda every day is a mystery to his fellow Panthers players.

“His diet is the most unique I’ve ever seen for a rugby league player,” teammate Nathan Cleary said earlier this year.

To’o’s diet is legendary for all the wrong reasons: the star admitted to drinking six cans of Coca-Cola Zero before a competition

The Blues winger has been in fine form so far in the State of Origin series, despite eating and drinking habits that would make a dietician dizzy.

‘I’ve never seen anyone eat four cans of coke and ten hash browns for breakfast on game day.

“He does it and is still a beast on the pitch, so kudos to him.”

To’o’s teammate Jarome Luai once theorized that the winger’s unusual diet is the secret to his success.

“He is a breed apart and has already come back from a few injuries, some quite serious ones,” said Luai.

“It’s probably what he eats. It’s the worst diet in NRL history but it works for him. Chicken and cheese… period. I can’t say any more.”

To’o was also asked which Blues player he wouldn’t let date his sister, a question he answered without hesitation.

“Marto. Marto,” he confirmed with a smile, referring to his Blues and Penrith colleague Liam Martin.

NSW coach Michael Maguire called To’o one of the most important, but also least sung about, members of his team ahead of the third game. He brings the players together, Maguire said.

“He’s the glue in the team,” Maguire said.

‘Everyone loves playing with him, you can see it in the way he brings the ball back.

“His defense is something that doesn’t get talked about, but he really works hard. As a winger now, if you’re on the perimeter, you’re on every play because you have people like [Queensland halfback] Daly Cherry-Evans shoots 40-20s and you have to watch out for that kind of movement.’
