NSW cop repeatedly smacks man with a baton during violent arrest in Chester Hill, Sydney

Confrontational footage has emerged of police involved in a violent altercation with an injured man on a busy street before spilling into a resident’s front yard in front of passing motorists.
New South Wales Police have defended the actions of motorcycle patrol officers and the use of batons during the dramatic arrest in broad daylight in Chester Hill, south-west Sydney on Tuesday.
Police allege that the bald and bearded man struck an officer’s helmet and determined that the tactical options used were “necessary” after reviewing the incident in the body camera view.
The 39-year-old man remains in hospital under police guard after suffering a laceration to his head and an allegedly broken arm during the altercation after police detained him during a vehicle stop.
Since then he has been charged with a series of offences, including assaulting the police.
The TikTok video begins with the man and a helmeted officer jostling and exchanging blows on the sidewalk before the officer pulls out his nightstick and begins to beat.

The officer is filmed hitting the man repeatedly with a baton while ordering him to the ground.
The man tries to fight back, but is eventually tackled to the ground in a driveway by officers and falls backwards.
He is quickly surrounded by three officers who stop him.
A bystander who is filming the alleged incident is heard telling police to stop.
“Stop using the bat, stop using the bat,” he is heard yelling.
“Stop hitting him on the head, you’re in a fucking video.”
‘He’s hurt, calm down guys!’
The police officer is seen struggling to handcuff the man on the ground as he tries to resist arrest.
‘Move your other hand,’ an officer ordered as the man screamed in pain.
Police allege that the man (left) assaulted and struck the helmet of an officer (right) during the violent incident.
The bystander filming the altercation is outraged by the use of force by the police.
‘What a bad look for the damn officers,’ said the viewer.
‘You punched him first, I’ve been watching everything. I hope you lose your damn job!
The officers finally get the man to his feet before escorting him to a nearby police van.
The video ends with an officer telling the viewer to go ahead, prompting an expletive-filled tirade.
‘Don’t touch me, I’m going to sue.’
‘Damn scoundrel. Hit a man over the head with a club!
Police insist that the tactical options used on the man during the dramatic arrest were “necessary”.
A second man who tried to intervene is seen being threatened with arrest.
“If you don’t go ahead, I’ll arrest you for hindering our investigation,” explains a police officer.
The video has since been removed from TikTok, but it continues to go viral on other social media platforms.
NSW Police have since defended the officers’ actions and given their version of the events leading up to the alleged altercation.
“The Highway and Traffic Patrol Command conducted an initial review of the entire incident captured in the officer’s body vision and determined that the officer’s tactical options were necessary for the arrest,” a police statement said.
Police allege officers were patrolling Chester Hill Street when a white Toyota Hilux was observed making an illegal U-turn.
An altercation broke out between the man (left) and police after the driver was pulled over and allegedly tested positive for drugs.
Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver before further investigation revealed that the driver’s license was suspended.
The driver underwent a roadside drug test that reportedly came back positive for cocaine.
The driver was placed under arrest, however he allegedly resisted and struck the officer’s helmet.
The man was later charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license, crossing an unbroken lane line and violating bail.
He may face further charges, pending the results of blood tests.
The matter is before the courts.
