- Mark Geyer slammed Queensland Origin coach Billy Slater
- Slater suggested NSW were targeting Reece Walsh in the series opener
- Rival coach Michael Maguire pointed out that Slater was not a clear skin
- Geyer then backed Maguire in a blunt assessment from Triple M
Decorated NSW Blues enforcer Mark Geyer has called out Billy Slater over his simmering feud with rival Origin coach Michael Maguire ahead of game two, declaring the former star fullback ‘didn’t have a rosy career himself’.
Speaking Mick & MG from Triple M in the morning on Tuesday, a typically blunt Geyer did not mince his words.
It followed Slater suggesting NSW deliberately targeted Queensland young gun Reece Walsh in the series opener on June 5 in Sydney.
Blues center Joseph Sua’ali’i was sent off after just seven minutes following a brutal late goal on Walsh as the Maroons cruised to a 38-10 victory at the Accor Stadium.
On Monday, Maguire fired back at Slater’s accusation, telling reporters: “You need to make sure you’re not living in greenhouses, that’s all I’ll say.”

Slater had a supporter in Maroons great Gorden Tallis, who blasted Maguire on NRL 360 for his comments
It was a reference to Slater’s sometimes questionable behavior on the field for the Melbourne Storm, Queensland and Australia.
Much to the frustration of many rival fans, Slater often resorted to the dangerous tactic of diving feet first at opponents trying to score tries in his football career.
An excited Geyer quickly reminded Slater over the air that he was not considered a clean player in all corners.
“He sometimes didn’t have a rosy career himself, he was suspended several times,” Geyer said angrily.
‘She [NRL] actually changed the rules to prevent players from sliding in with their boots…Billy did that all the time.
“Before you start throwing stones at Joseph Sua’ali’i, make sure you are [own] record is not in question.”
Slater did have a supporter in Maroons great Gorden Tallis, who targeted Maguire for his comments on NRL 360.
‘If Madge wants to try another coach it should be about his coaching career not his playing career because if Billy is talking about a guy being targeted he would know it because there is no player more targeted than Billy Slater. his time,” Tallis said.
“I played against Madge and he was probably never targeted. No one even knew he was on the field.”
Game two of the Origin series takes place on June 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
