NRL star Payne Haas has stunned after sharing a life quote on social media the day after his mother was issued a drink driving charge due to a fatal triple crash last December. in Gold Coast.

The 23-year-old Broncos mainstay posted a message via an Instagram story from Zimbabwean Islamic scholar Mufti Menk, who stated: “remember that your character should always be stronger than what you are experiencing in life.”

On Thursday, Haas’s mother, Uiatu ‘Joan’ Taufua, confronted Southport Magistrates Court via video link from the South Queensland Correctional Centre.

Haas’s mother was charged Thursday with one count of drink-driving related to a fatal three-way accident last December, followed by three counts of manslaughter and one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evasion of the police and driving without a license.

Taufua has also been charged with a drunk driving offense related to the accident since her case was last mentioned in court in January.

The 46-year-old man was the sole survivor of the accident at Bonogin on the Gold Coast.

Susan Zimmer, 70, her partner Chris Fawcett, 79, and Mrs. Zimmer’s daughter, Steffanie, passed away on December 30.

Taufua is alleged to have been running from Queensland Police when the accident occurred.

Speaking outside court, Taufua’s lawyer, Sophie Dagg, said her client was “very sorry.”

“These are very tragic circumstances,” Ms Dagg said. “Our thoughts are with the families involved.”

Taufua will face court again in April, while his son will start for the Broncos on Friday night against the Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium.
