Newcastle Knights playmaker Jackson Hastings has slammed Premier League table toppers Arsenal after a controversial video was shared on social media of players appearing to ignore a young mascot.

The Gunners posted the now viral video to Twitter of their side signing a shirt for one of their mascots outside the dressing room ahead of their 2-2 draw with West Ham on Sunday.

However, none of the players seemed to acknowledge the eight-year-old girl, Olivia Murray, as they passed the pen, despite her staring at them in admiration.

Celebrities like Nick Knowles, Laura Woods and Piers Morgan took to social media to label the players as “entitled, overpaid and rude.”

Knights star Hastings was also annoyed that the stars didn’t seem to be trying to get along with the youngster.

‘Real? I thought making memories would be if at least one of them had the decency to say ‘hello’ or acknowledge the young girl,” he posted on Twitter.

Hastings’ followers were quick to comment and post photos of him trying his hardest to stop and mingle with the fans over the years.

“I remember you stopping to say hello to my son before a Wigan Warriors match and also making time for a photo. He still talks about it,” one follower captioned a photo of Hastings and her son.

“Still missing you here mate,” another wrote alongside a photo of Hastings smiling and being mobbed by happy fans.

“Still hands down the best day for Joshua coming to @partridge_and with his Wigan kit. Still his idol and you always took time for him, he will never forget you #31,” another replied alongside a photo of Hastings and a young supporter.

The mascot’s dad has since jumped to the defense of the Arsenal players, insisting the footage was just a ‘little window’ into her day.

He also shared a photo of her holding Martin Odegaard’s hand.

“My daughter had a blast being the mascot for @Arsenal,” Mr Murray tweeted. “There was only a small window to meet the players and she really enjoyed it.

“Odegaard is her favorite player, so it was very special to keep his hand on the pitch.”

Another clip has since emerged which appears to show players high-fiving all of the West Ham mascots as they lined up in the tunnel for kick-off.
