The high-profile NRL star is charged with a new charge as he faces court for allegedly raping a woman in Brisbane last year.
A well-known NRL player accused of raping a woman in Brisbane is expected to face another charge of sexual assault later this month, a court has heard.
The footballer did not appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday when his matter was brought before Associate Magistrate Anthony Gett.
In court documents, police allege the man raped a woman at a location in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley in December last year.
Daily Mail Australia is unable to name the man under Queensland laws that prohibit the identification of people accused of sexual assault or rape offenses before they are sent to a higher court.
Chief Public Prosecutor Aisling Kennedy said Monday that the man also faced a charge of sexual assault in connection with the allegations in court.
The player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will have his new position listed at Brisbane Magistrates’ Court (pictured)
She said the charge would first be brought up before Brisbane Magistrates Court on March 15.
“The DPP intends to take up this matter,” said Ms. Kennedy.
Gett adjourned the man’s case until April 24 to allow the brief of evidence for the rape charge to be prepared and the DPP to transfer the sexual assault matter to his department.
The man remains free on bail.
