Former NRL enforcer Brett White has been praised after saving a woman who was being brutally attacked on a Queensland street.

The premiership winner with the Melbourne Storm is now based on the Gold Coast as part of the Titans’ coaching staff.

When he saw the woman being punched and kicked Tuesday night in Surfers Paradise, White, 40, did not hesitate to intervene.

“I just did what I think any guy would do in that situation,” White said. Wide World of Sports.

‘I heard a woman scream and I could see through the window that a guy was hitting her, pulling her hair and kicking her in the head… so I ran outside and told the lady to call the police.

“I went in after him and put him in a chokehold and pinned him down for about five minutes until the police arrived.”

White also revealed that police knew the man and that the victim was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

A witness expressed relief that White was on the scene as “the guy was really setting her up”.

A Dragons junior, White made his NRL debut in 2005 and played in multiple grand finals, clinching a premiership in 2007 in Melbourne’s win over the Sea Eagles.

The simple fixture is also known for his infamous on-field brawl with Steve Price, where the Queensland forward was knocked unconscious in the third game of the 2009 series.

After retiring in 2014, White worked with Ricky Stuart on the Raiders before moving to the Glitter Strip in the offseason after scouting by Justin Holbrook.

White finished his playing career with the Canberra Raiders (pictured) in 2014 before becoming a coach, a position he currently holds with the Gold Coast Titans.
