NRL fans blast the Dragons after embarrassing milestone jersey blunder: ‘Absolute joke’

  • Isn’t the first jersey blunder this NRL season

The St George Illawarra Dragons have come under fire from fans on social media after some observant supporters spotted a spelling mistake on Jack Bird’s jersey.

Bird wore a special milestone jersey for the 150th game during Sunday’s clash with the Sharks, celebrating his 67th game with the club.

However, during a post-match interview, it emerged that the star centre’s jersey suggested he played for the ‘Dargons’.

“Jack Vogel. 150th NRL match. Sharks vs. Dargons. Pointsbet Stadium. Sunday May 5, 2024′ was printed on the jersey.

With back-to-back losses, it hasn’t been a great start to the season for Dragons supporters – and the jersey error appears to have made matters worse.

‘This can’t be real, can it? Serious question,” posted the X account Red V Podcast, which also highlighted that the club had recently made a similar mistake on utility Fa’amanu Brown’s milestone jersey.

“That’s unacceptable,” another replied.

“Absolute joke,” a third posted.

Meanwhile, Shane Flanagan has branded his St George Illawarra side ‘terrible’ after his return to Shark Park ended in a 20-10 defeat that kept Cronulla atop the NRL ladder.

Coaching against Cronulla for the first time since being expelled from the club in 2018, Flanagan returned to the PointsBet Stadium on Sunday desperate to see his Dragons side find some of the grit that his premiership-winning Sharks team so feared and honored.

The Red V’s form has been inconsistent all season and a trip to face their nearest rivals came a week after their humiliating 60-18 Anzac Day defeat to the Sydney Roosters.

Although the Dragons stayed in the game, Flanagan remained furious at his side’s lack of discipline.

“We were just terrible, never finishing our sets, never getting to our kicks and when we did, we didn’t nail them in the corner,” Flanagan said.

‘It was a frustrating match, we didn’t give ourselves any chance because of the mistakes we made.

“We were there most of the time, but some mistakes and self-imposed penalties… we just can’t do that.”
