  • The 22-year-old was given a four-year suspension for using drugs as a youngster
  • Daily Mail Australia provides the latest international sports news

Bronson Xerri has been given a concrete date for his return to footy training with the Bulldogs, and it comes two months before his suspension officially expires.

Xerri, 22, was handed a four-year suspension by Sports Integrity Australia and the NRL after testing positive for a cocktail of drugs after appearing on the scene as an exciting center with the Sharks.

The footy star agreed to join Canterbury at the end of his suspension and will play for them in the 2024 and 2025 season.

And according to The Australian, Xerri will be allowed to train again with Cameron Ciraldo’s side on September 24 – two months before his suspension officially expires.

In an interview earlier this year, Xerri revealed he hasn’t been watching footy closely during his long hiatus and insisted he shouldn’t be judged on “one foul.”

He was sidelined for four years, but will make his comeback at Canterbury in 2024

“I’ll be back and prove everyone wrong,” he said. “My journey has been an up and down rollercoaster. “I would love to come back and make every rep team possible. I want to win a premiership.’

“Nobody knows how hard I worked to get where I was. If they want to label me a drug addict because of a mistake I made when I was 19, then so be it. I’m ready to shut them all up when I get back.

The key is to accept it and move on. The first two years were very tough. I accepted it. I have taken full control and am ready to move on with my life and career.”
