An influencer claims to have created a new exercise trend – walking outside without headphones – and hundreds of TikTokers are now following in her footsteps.
LA-based podcast host Mady Maio, 28, claims to have started the ‘movement’ and told her almost 50,000 followers to try ‘silent walking’.
She explained, “My dear friend challenged me to walk without distractions. No airpods, no podcast, no music: just me, me and me.
‘I was like f*** no, my fear could never exist. The first two minutes are chaos. Your mind will race, you will get anxiety.
“But after two minutes, something happens where your brain goes into this flow state and suddenly you can hear yourself.”

Amazingly, Mady’s video has been viewed more than 500,000 times and seems to have inspired others to follow her wellness trend.
One user shared a video of them strolling along a sidewalk, claiming they were taking “one silent walk a day.”
Another podcaster named Arielle Lorre said she proposed a new “walk concept” called “the silent girl walk.”
Arielle said that the “benefits of being in nature were undeniable,” but that nowadays it is “rare to be outside without being distracted.”
The new craze has taken the platform by storm and is now being earnestly talked about as a “wellness trend.”
One TikToker says walking with her “saved her life” after her divorce and helped her “build her ability to walk in silence.”
Another young woman posted her own video of herself walking and described the 30-minute activity as a “session.”

The user personally thanked Mady and said: ‘Mady Maio, you started something great!!.’
Commenting, another user said: ‘It’s literally the best!! I walk all the time and love my quiet walking time.”
However, as expected, many people have mocked the brave new trend, saying that Mady has taken credit for something that has always been done.
One said: ‘Gen X was silent before it was cool.’
Another said: ‘omg… this isn’t new… get over it.’
The trend is the latest youth craze to leave the social media company, which has been mocked in the past for some of its output.
Last year, a trend encouraged Gen Z workers to do the bare minimum at work to avoid burnout ‘quietly stop’.
The social media sensation encouraged staff to reject the idea of ’going above and beyond’ at work while still getting paid the same.
