Now, this is glamping! Porsche reveals luxury camping trailer concept for EV towing

Porsche takes glamping to a new level with a luxury camping trailer that can be towed by an electric vehicle.

The German car manufacturer and manufacturer of travel trailers AirStream unveiled a concept with sleeping and cooking facilities, storage space and walking space.

The 16-metre-long Airstream Studio FA concept has seating that converts from a dining space to a full-size bed, and a kitchenette in the back with a sink, stove and storage space.

Pricing for the silver bullet-looking trailer has not yet been announced.

An AirStream spokesperson told DailyMail.com: “The partnership was designed as an innovation exercise to help us think about how we can build on Airstream’s design DNA to create products for tomorrow.

“It is possible that some features and innovations of the concept may be incorporated into future models of current Airstream products.”

While costs are unknown, AirStream is a top name in the trailer industry, selling its designs from $46,000 to over $188,000.

While both AirStream and Porsche have not commented on price, the most expensive motorhome on the market costs $3 million — the Marchi Mobile’s EleMMent Palazzo Superior.

The companies debuted the concept at SXSW in Austin, Texas, touting it as a “vision of what a city-inspired RV could look like.” Car and driver reports.

Airstream CEO Bob Wheeler said in a statement: “Our customer base is about twice as likely to own an electric car than the general population.

‘Towing a travel trailer reduces the range. Weight and aerodynamics play a major role in this.’

The trailer is equipped with a suspension system, which allows it to be lowered to the ground for easier access and storage in a garage.

“The concept is the first ‘garageable’ Airstream design in the company’s 90-year history,” AirStream shared on its website.

There is also a hidden pop-top roof that adds more headroom and an awning for extra shelter off the access road.

The design team wanted a more aerodynamic look, which was achieved with a flat rear that is sharp that expels air while driving and a flat underside with no protrusions that create drag.

“Like previous concepts, the Airstream Studio FA Porsche Concept Travel Trailer builds on Airstream’s design DNA and our commitment to aerodynamics to create a vision that is both familiar and excitingly new,” said Wheeler.

“While our concept projects don’t always make it to market, the resulting learnings and innovations often influence current and future designs as they make their way into our core product lines.”

However, the interior can change the way people camp.

The floor is designed with light colored wood paneling that extends throughout to match the white and gray finish.

At the front there are two chairs on each side that can be folded into a single bed or kept upright to allow campers access to a table in the center – the table also folds down when not needed.

There are also reclining seat options that allow owners to enjoy the view through the open hatch.

Also mounted on the ceiling is a small television that can move in all directions.

The rear kitchenette includes a sink and hob that can be covered while driving.

And there is also storage space in this area.

The wet bath, integrated into the corner facing the road, has a door that creates an enclosed private area and swings freely to hide the toilet when not in use.

The companies didn’t reveal when the concept would go into production, but Wheeler told Car and Drive they’re considering it in the future.

“We’ve really fallen in love with this thing in the process and we’re actively trying to figure out how to produce it,” said Wheeler.

“We’re challenging ourselves to figure out how to build this effectively, to produce something identical to this or very similar to the customer of the future.”

AirStream is an American brand of travel trailers, started Wally Byam who built his first trailer in 1929 and then founded the company in 1931.
