Novak Djokovic provides a PERFECT response after being pummeled by Roger Federer at the Australian Open as the Serb looks to put health concerns aside against Grigor Dimitrov
Novak Djokovic dismissed an attempt to disrupt him at the Australian Open with one of the tournament’s jabs during his match with Grigor Dimitrov.
Having complained about drunken fans “trying to get into my head” during his second round win over Enzo Couacaud, another fan tried his hand at trying to distract the Serb on Saturday night.
As Djokovic prepared to serve his Bulgarian opponent, someone yelled ‘Come on, Roger’, referring to the great Swiss tennis player Federer, who is ranked by many fans as the best to play the sport, above Djokovic.
Over the years, the 35-year-old has been nervous about the crowd’s support for Federer, or Spanish rival Rafael Nadal, during high-profile Grand Slam matches against the pair, but he dismissed that annoyance as emphatic way.
Looking for a brilliant return from Dimitrov, Djokovic brilliantly hit his shot around the net and comfortably bounced into play on the other side of the court.
Djokovic casually walked back to his mark as the loudmouthed kicker was actually in place.
“Oh the irony of that, after someone yelled ‘Come on Roger’, Djokovic flips the net post with a forehand,” the commentator mused.
Dimitrov and Djokovic compete for a place in the round of 16 of the tournament, where Australian star Alex de Minaur awaits the winner.
The Serb has struggled with a hamstring problem throughout the tournament and was once again seen with heavy straps on his left leg.
After his win over Couacaud, he admitted that his future in the tournament was in God’s hands, and the issue seemed to crop up again as the first set wore on, with Djokovic struggling to hit the in-and-out forehand.
