- Novak Djokovic defeated Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 7-6 to win Olympic gold in Paris 2024
- He is now the fifth singles player in tennis history to win a career Golden Slam
- The others are Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf
Novak Djokovic is the fifth player in tennis history to win the Golden Slam as a singles player.
The 37-year-old Serb, who is competing in his fifth Olympic Games, defeated Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (3) 7-6 (2) on Sunday afternoon in the men’s singles final at Paris 2024.
Djokovic previously won the Australian Open ten times, the Wimbledon title seven times, the US Open four times and the French Open three times.
But a bronze medal in Beijing in 2008 was his best Olympic result until Sunday.
The only other players to have won all four Grand Slam singles titles and an Olympic gold medal in singles are Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf and Serena Williams – who was also in the crowd.

After Djokovic stood up, he climbed into the crowd to join his family and the cheering team.
Alcaraz struggled to hide his disappointment at having to settle for silver. But the 21-year-old is likely to get many more chances to go for gold, while this was probably Djokovic’s last shot at Olympic glory.
Djokovic told Eurosport after his victory: ‘It was an incredible fight and I had to show my best tennis.’
