The happy couple tied the knot in a ceremony last month, both dressed in suits, which Newton shared on Instagram. In an instant, Gemma held her bouquet to her belly.

Popular for his music in the 2000s, the pop singer returns to Glastonbury Festival 2023 Acoustic Stage. He will also be performing at a stately home at Melbourne Hall this summer.

Unusually for a rootsy singer-songwriter, Newton comes from an acting school background. After primary school he attended The Italia Conti Academy in London before moving to The Academy Of Contemporary Music in Guildford.

His rise in 2007 was word of mouth, as he was famous for his wry asides and impromptu covers – from the SpongeBob SquarePants theme to Bohemian Rhapsody.

He spent 18 months on the road promoting his debut and plans to do the same for Rebuilt By Humans starting next month.

He said in 2009, “When people see me live, they understand what I’m trying to do,” he says. “Once I signed a major record deal, I hit the road with James Morrison and Paolo Nutini, and those gigs paved the way for my first album…

“Now I look forward to doing it all again. I will be on stage alone, but the show will be more visual this time. I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve.’
