Nottingham Forest’s Harry Toffolo is suspended until the end of the 2023-24 season and fined £21k after breaking betting rules 375 times over a three-year period

  • The Nottingham Forest defender has been charged with breaching betting rules
  • The charges come less than two months after Ivan Toney was handed a lengthy ban

Nottingham Forest’s Harry Toffolo has been suspended until the end of the 2023/24 season and fined £20,956 for breaching gambling offences.

In a statement in July, the FA claimed that Toffolo’s allegedly breached betting rules 375 times over a three-year period stretching from January 22, 2014 – when the player was on Norwich’s books – to March 18, 2017.

In a new statement on Wednesday, they confirmed: ‘Nottingham Forest’s Harry Toffolo has been handed a five-month suspension, suspended until the end of the 2024/25 season, and a fine of £20,956.22 for misconduct relating to our betting rules. .

‘The defender admitted breaching FA Rule E1(b) 375 times between January 22, 2014 and March 18, 2017, and an independent regulatory commission imposed sanctions following a hearing.

“The Regulatory Commission’s written reasons for these decisions will be published in due course.”

Nottingham Forest’s Harry Toffolo has been handed a long-term ban and a hefty fine by the FA after admitting breaches of gambling rules between 2014 and 2017.

The incident comes four months after Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney were handed a stunning eight-month football ban for breaching gambling rules.

Mail Sport revealed in February that Toney had pleaded guilty to the majority of the 262 betting charges brought by the FA last year, with an independent disciplinary committee imposing an eight-month ban and £50,000 fine after a hearing this week.

Announcing Toney’s sentence in May, the FA revealed that Toney had admitted 232 of 262 charges, while the governing body had withdrawn the others.

The ban will prevent Toney from playing until January 16 next year and will last longer than expected, reflecting both the number of violations and the fact that the bets were placed over a longer period of four years between February 2017 and January 2021.

In another shocking development, Toney is not even allowed to train with Brentford until September, leaving him with no choice but to train alone to stay fit.

Toffolo, 27, was a regular in the Forest squad last season and made a total of 21 appearances in the 2022/2023 season.

The FA revealed that Toffolo’s breach of betting rules took place between January 22, 2014 and March 18, 2017.

In 2014/15 he was loaned out to Swindon before playing for both Rotherham and Peterborough the following season.

He then spent a loan spell at Scunthorpe United for the 2016/2017 season, around the time the alleged gambling offenses came to an end.

Toffolo joined League Two side Lincoln City in 2018 before moving to Huddersfield in the Championship where he has played regularly.

Over three seasons he made 96 appearances for the Terriers, contributing nine goals in that time.

Toffolo joined Premier League club Forest from Huddersfield last summer after two-and-a-half years at the West Yorkshire club.

Last season he made 21 senior appearances, including nine league starts, for the newly promoted club as they maintained their top-flight status.
