Nottingham Forest’s improvement this season has been driven by a massive training ground revamp, which has transformed the club’s preparation for matches.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis is said to have spent several million upgrading the facilities at the club’s Nigel Doughty Academy base, not far from the City Ground, and the site is unrecognizable from what it looked like when Forest were promoted in 2022.

The dining area has been transformed from a simple canteen to a stylish restaurant, with communal areas including table tennis and table football, comfortable seating in front of a large TV screen and even a barista serving high-quality coffee and smoothies.

Coach Nuno Espirito Santo dictates that players should eat at the same time and spend as much time in each other’s company as possible and Forest have pleased him with a massive revamp of their training ground. One golden rule: never disturb Nuno while eating his lunch.

In a glossy video published on their social media channels, Nuno gives a tour of the main building, taking the viewer to the new changing rooms, the smarter analysis and meeting rooms and the improved gym – covering more than 400 square meters – and treatment facilities.

β€œWhen we got promoted the pitches weren’t at the best standard,” says club skipper Ryan Yates. ‘Now they are basically identical to the City Ground, which is huge. ‘It helps us become better players. Huge investments have been made to ensure the pitches are world class.

‘Everything has improved dramatically. The canteen/lounge wasn’t even here and little touches like having a barista make it feel like a real Premier League training ground.”
