Forest have signed for the former Liverpool player after finding himself light in midfield due to the absence of Ryan Yates and Cheikhou Kouyate.

Shelvey’s contract at St James’ Park expired at the end of the season, prompting Steve Cooper’s team to sign the midfielder.

The 30-year-old has made just three Premier League appearances for the Magpies this year after falling down the pecking order at the Tyneside club.

In addition to Shelvey and Wood, Forest have also added Brazilian pairing Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa and they are also chasing a goalkeeper, centre-back and winger before Tuesday’s deadline.

Forest is seeking to recruit Felipe from Atlético de Madrid and has inquired about Besiktas defender Romain Saiss.

Felipe, a former Porto central defender, joined Atlético de Madrid in 2019, playing 85 games with the LaLiga team.

Forest has opened his own talks with the Spanish club, in a bid to add Felipe to his long list of new signings since returning to the Premier League for the first time in more than two decades.

They have been exploring a loan deal for Paris St Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas as cover for the injured Dean Henderson, who is on loan from Manchester United.
