Nottingham Forest have been denied in an approach by Montpellier defender Maxime Esteve.

According to L’EquipeForest have had an offer of £9.7m with add-ons turned down by the Ligue 1 outfit.

Forest made a big splash in the summer, signing 23 players at a cost of £163.5m, and have already added to that numerical and financial outlay by adding Gustavo Scarpa ahead of this window.

Maxime Esteve is on Nottingham Forest’s radar, but Montpellier turned down an offer

The 20-year-old Esteve, who has emerged as one of France’s brightest young defensive talents, has a plethora of suitors at Montpellier determined to keep him at least until the end of the season.

A 1.80m tall centre-back, Esteve’s current contract at the Stade de la Mosson has another two and a half years to go.

In addition to Steve Cooper’s side, the likes of Everton and Serie A side Sassuolo have also rejected approaches.

Forest is also continuing talks with Palmeiras over Danilo, though he has late interest from Monaco.

In addition to Forest, Everton and Sassuolo are also interested in the coveted defender.
