Nothing Ear Leakage claims that the company’s earbuds will see noticeable changes both inside and out
Shortly after phone company Nothing teased their upcoming earbuds, leaked images emerged revealing what the third-generation Ear and Ear (a) models could look like. This information comes from news site Android Headlines, which also lists several potential features. Looking at their report cardit seems that the next generation models will look almost identical to the previous model.
They retain the transparent design the series is known for. However, if you look closely, you will see the words “NIETSoor” on the side instead of the expected “NIETSoor (3)”. This isn’t entirely new information, as the company has decided to ditch the old naming convention of adding the generation number to the end of their products. Additionally, the pair will be available in white and black.
Much of this reflects what we see in the official close-up photo posted on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter).
The report claims that the earbuds will have significantly better battery life than the Nothing Ear (2), clocking in at 7.5 hours with active noise cancellation turned off. With the case, that number jumps to 33 hours. Features on the device include an IP54 resistance rating to survive water and dust impacts, plus support for double connections. The latter allows the earbuds to “connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously”. Fast charging is also present on the pair. A quick 10-minute charge will give you 10 hours of use.
Striking design
The Nothing Ear (a) shares several features of the next-gen offering, with a few notable differences. Dual connection, IP54 rating and fast charging are all there, but the battery has even longer battery life at “eight hours of playback with ANC turned off”. The charging case extends the runtime to 38 hours.
It will not only be available in black and white, but also in a striking yellow shade. The silicone tips and the shell around them look like they’ve been dipped in mustard, while the rest of the body is black. The charging case for the Nothing Ear (a) is also yellow.
It’s worth noting that the striking color scheme was hinted at on April 3 in a previous Nothing message on X. It featured an image of a yellow frog next to a black beetle with text announcing an official unveiling on April 18. The slogan “Play Date” is also written there. It is not known exactly what this means. But 9To5Google posits an interesting theory – this could be a reference to the Playdate gaming handheld.
They point out that one) the slogan in the X-post and the name of the gadget are identical, although written differently. And two) the device has a similar yellow tint to earbuds. Perhaps nothing teases that it will enter into a new collaboration with Playdate.
If you look at them Help page, Playdate states that their device does not support Bluetooth connectivity, although the development team is working on it. Update day could be on the horizon, with the Nothing Ear (a) being the first Bluetooth audio device to work with the handheld.
Of course, you should take everything you read here with a grain of salt. Given the evidence, it’s all just a theory. Either way, we’ll find out for sure on April 18 during Nothing’s next Community Update.
