An Australian roadworks crew received unusual feedback for their holiday maintenance this week: a kind note and a tub of homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Workers were repairing Obi Obi Road, inland from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, when they received the unexpected care package.

The handwritten letter came from a local woman, Beverley, from the small town of Mapleton.

“Dear highway workers, thank you for rating the Obi,” he wrote.

‘Once again I was in a state of trouble. Merry Christmas to all. Thanks again, Beverley,’ she wrote.

He topped it off with a plastic tub filled with his own homemade cookies.

“The sweetest Christmas presents are the ones you don’t expect,” the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads wrote in a viral Facebook post.

“It’s not every day that we’re greeted with such warm hospitality.”

The road workers ate the cookies in a matter of minutes, the post read ‘but we will remember this one for years to come’.

Queenslanders jumped back in time to express their admiration for Betty’s kind gestures.

But a Bundaberg woman had a warning for highway workers: Remember your label when delivering homemade goods.

“Always remember to return the plate,” he wrote.

Queensland’s 2021-22 budget committed $27.5 billion for investment in roads and transport over the next four years, including road improvements.

A Gladstone man promised to ‘send cookies every week’ if the Bruce Highway, known as the most dangerous in the state, was repaired.

‘Maybe she’s trying to encourage you to come back for maintenance before the roads are completely wrecked like Bruce is currently?’

Road grading removes potholes and protruding rocks, but cuts and grades a road to restore the driving surface.
