Bolton striker Victor Adeboyejo will be sidelined for a period after suffering an injury in bizarre circumstances.

The 26-year-old was due to feature in Tuesday night’s EFL Trophy match against Barrow but was not included in the squad.

The Trotters eventually won 3-2, but manager Ian Evatt was disappointed with Adeboyejo’s injury, which he sustained after a ‘bad sneeze’.

‘Victor was suffering from a nasty back injury and a sneezing fit yesterday caused him to [Monday] “Believe it or not,” Evatt said the Bolton News.

“We’ve had a scan and the results should be out soon. Everyone remembers the challenge at Charlton, he was OK at that time.”

Manager Ian Evatt lamented Adeboyejo’s injury, which he sustained after a ‘bad sneeze’.

‘But then he had a really bad sneeze – now Victor is a powerful boy and even his sneezes are powerful.

‘He felt a small crack between his ribs and we are hoping it is a cartilage or muscle problem, but until we have a good look at the scan we don’t know.

“I have to take a good look at myself when players get injured and sneeze. That’s just how it seems to be, but we have to deal with it.”

Fans on social media reacted en masse to Adeboyejo’s injury, with one posting: ‘Victor AdeboyACHOO’.

Another said: ‘I was laughing on the bus when I read that. It shouldn’t be funny but it is.’

‘Victor Adeboyejo could miss a whole season if he ever gets hay fever #BWFC,’ wrote a third.

Adeboyejo has made five appearances for Bolton this season in League One and the EFL Trophy, scoring one goal.
