Not just an ‘urban legend’: The mile-high club is actually a ‘really embarrassing situation’ to be in, reveals flight attendant
A senior flight attendant has revealed that the mile-high club is more common than passengers might expect, but claims it is actually a ‘very embarrassing situation to be in’.
On Reddit’s ‘Ask Me Anything’ forum, user ‘RomanAirLad’ created a thread to answer other users’ questions about his work.
And apparently there was one question on everyone’s mind: “Do people actually have sex on airplanes?”
To clear up the confusion, the flight attendant claimed that while he wishes the mile-high club were an “urban legend,” it is surprisingly common on airplanes.
He explained: ‘As much as people fantasize about it, it’s a really embarrassing situation to be in.’
A senior flight attendant has revealed some insider secrets of the trade on Reddit’s ‘Ask me Anything’ forum. He claimed the mile-high club is more than just an ‘urban legend’
User ‘eagscout225’ asked: ‘What happens to these people when the plane lands?’
The original poster explained that this is a case-by-case basis and usually comes with some warnings.
If they stop, nothing happens, he wrote, adding: “Otherwise it will escalate to the captain and they will be met by security upon landing. That is the general procedure for all airlines.’
To which the user replied, “OMG. I would hate to do that on an airplane.”
In the thread, the flight attendant also revealed that hookup culture is widespread among cabin crew.
One user, ‘Anomaly1134’, asked: ‘Is hookup culture still pretty wild between pilots and flight attendants?’
To which the senior flight attendant responded, “It is, but if a crew is recognized to be like that, I personally avoid them.”
The anonymous crew member claims the mile-high club is actually a ‘very embarrassing situation to be in’ and happens more often than passengers might expect
When asked if flight attendants sometimes offer “sexual favors,” the original poster wrote:[That’s] absurd. Unless you ask Megan Fox, that’s a different case.”
Besides revealing insider gossip, the senior team member also shared useful advice to the passengers.
When asked about his top five tips for international travel, the crew member said: ‘Don’t rely on cleaning the seats and toilet, it doesn’t get cleaned that often.
‘Use duty free bags to store things, they won’t take them from you.
‘Book aisle and window seats if you want to keep a row to yourself, especially if the flight is not full. She [passengers] won’t book the middle seat.’
He also advised booking tickets before the seasonal peaks for the “cheapest fares” and avoiding overeating before fights as it can “make you feel bloated.”
Meanwhile, other Reddit users were more interested in how he got into the profession and how they could follow suit.
One user, ‘Pierf1n’, asked: ‘If I want to become a flight attendant, what should I do?’
The original poster replied: ‘This is a wonderful job if you want to broaden your horizons and be part of a great community.
“If you want to become a flight attendant, I recommend checking with your local airline and checking out their requirements.”
He explained that there are many disadvantages to the job, such as “feeling physically exhausted from flying.” But, he said, if you have a “well-adapted routine and take good care of yourself,” then you should “go for it.”
