Not enough space on your screen? Lenovo unveils a laptop with an EXTENDABLE display that can expand by three inches with the flip of a switch

  • Lenovo unveiled a laptop with an extendable screen at Mobile World Congress
  • With the flip of a switch, the 12.7in screen takes 10s to become a 15.3in display
  • It’s an early proof of concept and is unlikely to be released to the public

Whether it’s while you’re working from home or checking your emails on a train, there are often times we wish our laptop screen had more space.

But the days of despairing over a lack of second screen could soon be a thing of the past, thanks to Lenovo’s latest invention.

The tech giant has unveiled a laptop with an extendable screen at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023.

With the flip of a switch, the 12.7 inch screen takes just 10 seconds to become a 15.3 inch display.

While the futuristic device is on display at MWC in Barcelona, it’s a very early proof of concept and is unlikely to be released to the public for some time yet.

MWC, the world’s largest trade show for the telecoms industry, returned to Barcelona this week to unveil the latest technology in smartphones.

…and many more

Tens of thousands of attendees arrived for the first day to see what the biggest brands have in store for the future, from 6G to the Metaverse.

Daily Mail’s Technology Editor, Jim Norton, visited the Lenovo stand to see the extendable laptop screen in action.

The screen features a discreet button on the side, allowing users to extend their display quickly and easily.

Lenovo believes the extendable screen would be helpful for both office workers needing to see more cells in a spreadsheet or web designers wanting more space for lines of code.

It is aiming to make it durable enough for it to extend between 20,000 to 30,000 times in its lifecycle, though it wouldn’t give any further detail about weight or battery life.

The company also revealed a smartphone that extended – in contrast to the current trend among other big brands of having foldable phones to increase screen size.

The demo version grows vertically from a 5in display to 6.5in.

Also on display at MWC was the Nubia 3D pad – a £900 tablet that can  bring films, games and even Zoom meetings to live by showing them all in 3D.

Two AI-enabled cameras above the screen track each of the user’s eyes as they watch the screen, which enables the screen to look 3D from wherever you look.

The 12.4inch device, which launches globally next month, can show films and games in 3D, while it will also work on Zoom.

It can also convert 2D pictures and videos into 3D, allowing users to look at products – such as the latest shoes – as though they are in front of them.

Chinese tech firm Nubia, which is owned by ZTE, has equipped the device with a 2.5k screen and four symmetrical speakers supporting Dolby Surround Sound.
