A young woman has died on the operating table after undergoing a rhinoplasty by a doctor she contacted via social media in Italy.
Margaret Spada, a 22-year-old from Lentini, Sicily, traveled to the unnamed clinic in Rome on November 4 for a “touch-up” after seeing an advertisement for the clinic on TikTok.
But she became seriously unwell shortly after receiving a local anesthetic and became unconscious before the rhinoplasty began.
Multiple attempts were made to resuscitate Margaret, but her condition quickly deteriorated and she was rushed to hospital, where she fell into a coma.
Three days later, Margaret died in her bed at Sant’Eugenio Hospital in Rome La Repubblica.
“The absurd thing is that it was a routine operation,” said her family’s lawyer, Alessandro Vinci.
“The fact that a 22-year-old girl returns home in a coffin is unacceptable for the family.”
In a heartbreaking twist, Margaret’s boyfriend, who was in the waiting area as her condition worsened, was taken to the operating room to see his girlfriend as she fell unconscious.

The entire community of Lentini is shocked by the devastating news of her death.
“The family, the parents and the sister are currently surrounded by the affection of many people and are closed in a silence of pain that cannot be explained in words,” said the family’s lawyer, Alessandro Vinci.
“They demand to know the circumstances and causes of their daughter’s death.”
Vinci added that a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Friday.
Meanwhile, a manslaughter investigation has been opened by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office, NeedToKnow reports.
Medical records were seized to determine whether the center was sufficiently qualified to perform complex cosmetic surgery, such as rhinoplasty.
Researchers are also investigating whether Margaret’s health was properly assessed before she went under anesthesia.
