Northampton Town's DJ has been forced to apologize after playing Wham's festive hit 'Last Christmas' at a recent match.
Fans are furious that this will have left thousands losing the holiday game 'Whamaggedon' – in which people try to avoid the song for as long as possible.
Once the song is heard, that person is eliminated. Hence the frustration of the 7,215 people who attended their match against Portsmouth at Sixfields Stadium on December 2.
“I never knew people took it so seriously,” says Matt Facer, also known as DJ Matty.
“I put a spin on it and thought it would be kind of funny to wipe out 7,000 people who couldn't get around it, but it's clearly not funny,” he said.

'I had a bit of an insult on Twitter, light-heartedly, saying it wasn't a nice thing to do, and apparently that was quite lame from what was said in the stadium.
“So I officially apologize to everyone whose Christmas I ruined.”
'DJ Matty' has since promised fans he won't spoil the match for anyone else, especially those who attended their 3-0 win over Fleetwood Town on Saturday.
He told BBC Radio Northampton: “I can go up against my home fans and Portsmouth but I don't think I'll play it again.
'I think it's a shame that people in professions like mine don't Wham! until (the end of) December, but it's a game and we all have to participate.”
Last Christmas reached number two upon release and eventually reached the top spot on January 1, 2021.
The game 'Whamageddon' started about 10 years ago and has continued to grow in popularity since then, including through social media.
Nowadays the game has set rules, a special website and merchandise.
The rules state: 'While we can't stop you from deliberately sending your friends to Whamhalla, this is intended to be a survival game. No Battle Royale.”
The song was played during Northampton's 3-0 defeat to Portsmouth at the start of the month
