Ax attack in North Perth: ‘Heroic’ View Street Medical staff, patients fight against man

An axe-wielding man who stormed a medical center and allegedly punched a female worker was only stopped when ‘heroic’ staff and patients jumped on him.

A 55-year-old was arrested by police shortly afterwards on Thursday afternoon and the female employee at View Street Medical in North Perth was rushed to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Batson said patients at the practice helped subdue the alleged attacker Western Australian reported.

“The public arrested the man at the time and I would like to thank them for their heroic actions,” he said.

Western Australia police have described staff and patients as “heroic” for jumping on a man wielding an ax at a North Perth medical center on Thursday morning (pictured).

‘This is a serious incident… this is very frightening for everyone involved and once again I would like to thank the members of the public who stood up and were able to detain the man.’

Detective Batson said it was not clear whether the alleged attacker was a patient at the clinic or what his motives for the alleged attack were.

The arrested man is expected to be charged later today.

Forensic officers and other police were still on scene Thursday afternoon.
