So it’s no surprise that Paul Mescal appeared in high spirits on Saturday while attending the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards nominees brunch in Santa Monica, California.
The 27-year-old actor was also joined by his close friend and Breaking Bad star Dale Dickey and they had some sweet photos before the award ceremony together.
Paul, who was nominated for Best Lead Performance for his work in the hit film Aftersun, dressed in a smart-casual look for the event.
The Normal People actor donned an oversized ’90s-style smart white casual shirt.

He also opted for a pair of elegant leather shoes for the event and seemed to be in high spirits as he took the opportunity to snap a few photos on the carpet before the ceremony.
The Film Independent Spirit Awards nominees brunch comes after Paul starred in the 2020 hit show Normal People, which catapulted him to fame.
Paul took on the role of protagonist Connell on the series while acting as the love interest of Daisy Edgar Jones’ character Marianne.
He is the talk of the town right now having risen to fame in recent years and is reportedly set to star in the highly anticipated sequel to Gladiator.
The actor is said to have “always been” director Ridley Scott’s choice for the role.
However, he will reportedly not be playing the role of Maximus, the Roman general-turned-gladiator who won Russell Crowe an Oscar in the original.
Russell’s titular gladiator, who was killed off at the end of the film, has yet to check into the film; however, fans are hoping that he will return for a flashback scene.

Paul’s character is believed to be Lucius Verus, who was played by Spencer Treat Clark in the original and was also the nephew of the evil Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix).
While the new role comes as he’s also had a coveted Academy Awards nod, earning a Best Actor nomination for his role in the film Aftersun.
He received loads of praise for his role in the Charlotte Wells-directed film released last year, where he plays Calum, a 30-year-old single father.

Aftersun tells the story of a girl named Sophie, played by Frankie Corio, who reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a vacation she took with her father twenty years earlier.

The star-studded Oscar ceremony, which will be hosted by American comedian and presenter Jimmy Kimmel, will take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
