Weymouth’s Vanarama National League South match with rivals Yeovil Town was abandoned on Saturday.

Weymouth were 1-0 ahead thanks to Dan Roberts’ goal in the 32nd minute.

However, the clash was stopped in the 75th minute when it emerged that a supporter among the 4,712 spectators had fallen ill.

The referees suspended the match when a helicopter had to land on the field to care for the fan – who was in the away section – of the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The ventilator was then transported to the hospital.

It became clear that the match could not go ahead and the match was stopped at 3:35 PM after a 42-minute break.

“The individual is now on his way to hospital but due to the length of time involved the referee ruled that the match should be abandoned at that point,” Weymouth chairman Paul Maitland said in a video on X.

‘The club has already been in contact with the National League to understand what will happen next.

‘It is not the situation we are used to, when the match is abandoned, it is assessed by the National League board whether the match should be replayed or whether the result should stand.

“I suspect because of the point of the season we’re at, the decision will be made quite quickly.

“As a club, I would like to convey our best wishes to the person who fell ill during today’s match and wish him a speedy recovery,” he added.
