You could forgive Jessica Fox for being the biggest inspiration for her younger sister Noemie, who will take her triumphant kayak cross final on Monday.
But the newly crowned Olympic champion has found another source of motivation for the big race in France.
The Fox family had a complete winning streak of gold medals in Paris. Noemie joined her sister Jessica in becoming Olympic champion by winning the kayak cross.
The 27-year-old was unstoppable in the new Olympic whitewater event, winning every round and also winning the four-paddler final at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium on Monday.
Fox crossed the finish line first, ahead of Frances Angele Hug, while Britain’s reigning world champion Kimberley Woods won bronze.
Woods held on to the lead but struggled to clear a gate upstream at the end of the race, allowing Fox to drive quickly to the finish.
After her victory, Fox revealed how the win of compatriot and new BMX champion Saya Sakakibara motivated her efforts.
Sakakibara, like Fox, was not seen as a favorite to win gold in the final. The BMX star was up against the unbeatable British Bethany Shriever.
But the Australian pulled off a huge surprise by quickly claiming victory, just as Fox did to Woods.
Noemie Fox has revealed her main inspiration for gold wasn’t her sister Jessica
The younger Fox, 27, triumphed in the kayak cross final on Monday
She said the achievements of BMX champion Saya Sakakibara inspired her
“I thought, okay, I’m going to do the same thing as her,” she told Nine.
“And it’s surreal to hold this (the gold medal). It just feels like a dream.
‘I can’t believe it’s mine. Years of hard work and today it’s just perfect.
“It was a great privilege and honor to be up there on the podium with two other pioneers in kayakcross, who have put so much time and energy into it.
“We’ve done training camps together and sharing that moment was so special, yeah. It’s just a dream. It’s a dream come true.”
