IDrive has announced the launch of a new cloud data migration tool aimed at simplifying data transfers from alternative cloud storage providers.
The IDrive e2 migration tool, which has no minimum data limits, is free to use and allows businesses to avoid the cumbersome outbound fees and hurdles typically associated with data transfers.
Cloud migrations have traditionally been a costly and time-consuming process that forces users to engage the services of a third-party tool to perform a transfer. Relying on third-party services adds even more costs and risk to users handling sensitive data. data, resulting in a challenging migration process.
IDrive boost
According to IDrive, the new migration tool ensures “data integrity and privacy” are maintained during the transfer process.
The service uses “state-of-the-art” encryption protocols, which guarantee end-to-end protection for all data transferred.
Raghu Kulkarni, CEO of IDrive, said the new tool is a direct response to traditional migration challenges, adding that the company has taken a “proactive approach” to simplify and streamline data transfer processes.
“With the release of our new cloud migration tool, we are removing the barrier for customers to move their data from other object storage providers to IDrive e2,” he said.
“We see customers who want to leave other object storage providers, but cannot afford to do so because they are tied to a particular supplier. We make it easy to move data to IDrive e2.”
IDrive vs. Backblaze vs. Wasabi
Industry counterparts such as Backblaze and Wasabi offer similar data migration options through their cloud storage products, leaving IDrive to face stiff competition.
Starting at $30 per terabyte per year, the IDrive e2 offers users no outgoing fees, and can also be purchased in a pay-as-you-go option for $4 per terabyte, per month.
Backblaze, meanwhile, offers users $6 per terabyte per month through its B2 storage line. The provider does not currently offer an annual subscription.
Customers are also entitled to free monthly outbound charges, provided any transfers are within a limit of three times the data stored.
Additional outbound data traffic will incur a surcharge of $0.01 per gigabyte. However, users who switch to approved Backblaze partners are exempt from additional fees.
Wasabi object storage has a relatively similar cost: $6.99 per terabyte per month. Customers do not have to pay outgoing costs at Wasabi storage. However, a minimum of 25 TB is required to use the company’s migration tool.
Wasabi also has a 90-day minimum storage policy, which means that if stored items are deleted before they have been retained for the allotted time, customers will be charged a “timed deleted storage” fee.
