As I write this, Apple’s Glowtime event is in full swing and while we haven’t yet gotten the already-announced Apple Watch Ultra 3 (as reported ahead of the event), we did get a new color for the Apple Watch Ultra 2: a satin black titanium finish.
As the name suggests, it’s basically a deep black with a soft brushed finish. And I think it looks great, despite not being a fan of even the best smartwatches. There’s also the option for a Milanese strap in a matching satin black; I find that a little odd for a watch aimed at rugged outdoor action, when that type of strap is more something you’d find on fancy mechanical watches. That said, the titanium strap is corrosion-resistant, making it activity-ready.
The satin black Apple Watch Ultra 2 will be available from September 20 for $799 / £799 / AU$1,399, which is the same price as the titanium Apple Watch Ultra 2.
But there’s more, because the Apple Watch Ultra 2 gets the sleep apnea detection feature that the recently launched Apple Watch 10 also has. So that’s definitely a nice addition, especially since it could be a life-saving feature in some cases.
With the Apple Watch Ultra 2 only 12 months old, it might be unrealistic to expect a major update since there’s still room to get more out of the high-end smartwatch. And a slick new color option could be just what some people on the fence about buying the premium Apple Watch have been waiting for.
