Former Channel Seven star Andrew O’Keefe erupts at police in angry outburst during dramatic arrest

  • Tensions quickly rose

The moment former TV personality Andrew O’Keefe realised he was being arrested for a “violent and degrading” attack has been released by a court, with the former presenter seen shouting at police as they handcuffed him.

The former Deal or No Deal presenter was arrested at a Sydney apartment after alleging he assaulted a woman and breached an AVO, just days before his arrest in September 2021.

He has since been convicted of the offence and assault, in which he kicked, pushed and spat on a woman, but is currently appealing his conviction.

The arrest footage obtained by Nine News shows O’Keefe answering the door while he is in the middle of an appointment with a psychiatrist.

In one clip, police are seen attempting to arrest O’Keefe, who is still in his apartment, as the former attorney screams, “This is what happens when I don’t have my meds.”

“This is a simple request. Why are you so f**king Nazis?” he is heard saying while handcuffed.

“Why should I calm down when you do this to me?”

The footage comes after O’Keefe pleaded guilty to a single charge of driving with a suspended licence at Downing Centre Crown Court on Tuesday.

The traffic offense has absolutely nothing to do with the arrest footage released by the court.

Police arrested the 52-year-old man after a routine traffic stop on Victoria Rd in the exclusive Sydney suburb of Bellevue Hill at around 1.30pm on June 20.

O’Keefe represented himself in court and told Judge Michael Allen that he was on his way to pick up his driver’s license when he was pulled over by police that afternoon.

O’Keefe told the court his driver’s license had been revoked because he had not completed a driver’s education course, which he had completed that same month.

Judge Allen admitted it was a ‘lesser offence’ but told O’Keefe he was ‘not unfamiliar with this place in recent times, although they were more serious offences’.

β€œIt is serious that you were on parole at the time of this lesser offence and that is a factor I have to take into account,” he said.

Judge Allen told the court he accepted O’Keefe’s explanation as “consistent with the reality of the situation” and that his driving was not “undesirable”.

The judge did not convict O’Keefe of the offense, but instead sentenced him to 12 months’ probation, a form of conditional release.

When asked outside court if he hoped his life would get better “from here,” O’Keefe told media he “hoped so” before noting he would be back in court the next day.

The former Weekend Sunrise presenter is facing charges of driving while banned and harassment following an unrelated incident last month.

O’Keefe has not yet entered a plea but will appear in court again on August 28 to hear what happened to him after he appealed a series of domestic violence and drug-related offences.

The fallen star appeared dejected as he rested on a stone bench in a park in Paddington on the city’s eastern outskirts after Tuesday’s hearing.

The former Chase Australia presenter, wearing a checked turquoise suit with a tie and socks in different shades of blue, dabbed his sweaty forehead with a handkerchief.

The fallen star drank a glass of Lucozade and stared into the distance.

At one point he appeared to spit dejectedly into the grass at his feet.

It was a far cry from his highlights as a presenter of programmes such as Weekend Sunrise and The Rich List.
