‘No one treats the president of the United States like a baby…that’s ridiculous’: Karine Jean-Pierre rejects book’s claim Biden thought aides treated him like a ‘toddler’ after Putin gaffe

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Tuesday dismissed an allegation in a new book that said President Joe Biden had become angry because his aides treated him like a “toddler” following his accidental call to remove Russian President Vladimir Putin from power.

In The Last Politician: Inside Joe Biden’s White House and the Struggle for America’s FutureThe Atlantic’s Franklin Foer wrote that Biden felt he was being seduced after joking that Putin “can’t stay in power” while addressing a crowd in Warsaw, Poland, in March 2022.

During Tuesday’s press conference, Fox News’ Peter Doocy pointed out that Biden, at age 80, is the “oldest president in American history,” then asked why White House staff treated him like a “baby.”

“No one treats the President of the United States, the Supreme Commander, like a baby,” replied Jean-Pierre. ‘That is ridiculous.’

The press secretary went on to say that there will always be a “series of books about every government” filled with a “variety of allegations.”

“That’s not unusual,” she continued. ‘That happens all the time. And we’re not going to litigate about this. That’s something we’re not going to talk about.’

She then spoke about some of those claims.

“There’s one thing I do want to know, because I think I was asked this question last week by one of your colleagues about this particular excerpt they were referring to.”

DailyMail.com had asked Jean-Pierre about Biden’s admission of feeling “tired,” and attributed that to his advanced age, pointing out how few morning events were held at the White House.

Jean-Pierre called it a “ridiculous assumption.”

Foer’s book noted that it was “striking that he attended so few morning meetings or presided over so few public events before 10 a.m.”

“His public persona reflected the physical decline and dulling of mental faculties through time, which no pill or exercise regimen can resist,” said the author. “In private, he sometimes admitted that he felt tired.”

But in the same passage, Foer says the president’s “wartime leadership” in supporting Ukraine in its fight against the invading Russian army “drawn on his weathered instincts and robust self-confidence.”

About the war in Ukraine, Foer writes that “the benefits of having an older president were visible.”

“He was not just a leader of the coalition, he was the father figure of the West, whom foreign leaders could turn to for advice and to look to for certainty. It was his calming presence and strategic clarity that contributed to the alliance’s aggressive stance, which hampered authoritarianism on the front lines,” the book says.

Jean-Pierre said White House officials had seen the clip.

And it seemed to make the opposite general point about how the value of his experience and wisdom resulted in uniting the free world against authoritarianism, which is important, we’ve seen this, you’ve all seen this in the passage of the most historic agenda in recent history, in its handling of foreign policy, such as uniting the world around Ukraine,” she said.

Doocy also pointed it out Polling from the Wall Street Journal showing that even two-thirds of Democrats believed Biden was too old to run for a second term.

‘Look, this is what I know, I can talk to this. I can speak to a president who has wisdom. I can speak to a president who has experience. I can speak to a president who has done historic deeds, taken historic action, and delivered historic legislation. And that’s important,’ Jean-Pierre replied.

She also repeated a line of attack against former President Donald Trump that Biden often deploys, including during a Labor Day speech the day before.

“When the last man in the Oval Office talked about infrastructure week, it was a joke, and the president passed a pretty important piece of legislation bipartisan because of his wisdom, because of his experience, and now we have an infrastructure decade. ‘ she said.
