No infiltration along int'l border in Jammu in past year: BSF officer
BSF Inspector General (IG) DK Boora on Tuesday confirmed that the force has successfully maintained peace along the International Border (IB) on the Jammu border and said no infiltration has been reported along the Pakistan border in the last one year .
According to him, the number of drone dropping incidents has decreased significantly.
“There has been no infiltration along the IB in the last one year. There have been two to three infiltration attempts, all of which have been successfully neutralized. Vigilant forces have thwarted three Pakistani smugglers who attempted to breach the IB and bring narcotics into Indian territory to smuggle,” Boora said. told reporters here.
Regarding drone activities, he said the number of such incidents has decreased noticeably over the past year. He attributed this to the dismantling of a drone-based smuggling network earlier this year.
“Earlier this year, a large gang involved in drone smuggling was arrested. There is almost no drone activity along the IB in Jammu. Someone needs to be there to pick up the material dropped by drones from across the border. That network has been busted by the police and sympathizers of terrorists have been arrested,” the Border Security Force (BSF) officer said.
He stressed that there is no involvement of those living near the border in such activities.
On recent ceasefire violations, Boora said there were three such incidents along the IB and the BSF responded with a “befitting reply”, causing heavy casualties to Pakistan.
He said the ceasefire is not to drive terrorists into India but for some other purpose, which should not be made public.
Boora highlighted the challenges faced by the Border Security Force in 2023, including drone activities, unprovoked fire and smuggling attempts, and commended the BSF, Jammu, for successfully dealing with them.
At terror launch pads along the IB, the officer said the BSF remains alert, aiming to effectively seal the border.
“The year 2023 witnessed many challenges… such as drone activities, unprovoked shooting and smuggling attempts. But true to its tradition, the BSF-Jammu foiled all the attempts of the adversary and foiled his evil plans,” he added.
On the implementation of the smart fencing and anti-drone deployment projects, Boora said these are nearing completion.
Responding to questions about tunnels, he said there have been no reports of tunnels being used by terrorists in the past year. He emphasized the use of manual and technological measures to prevent such eventualities.
Asked about the possibility of airstrikes in the lines of those perpetrated by Hamas on Israel, Boora affirmed that such mischief would receive an appropriate response.
On cultivation along the IB, he said 20 percent of the land before the border fence is cultivated by farmers.
