No call-up for your country? Time for a real ‘international break’! Stars jet off on holiday with no Premier League games for two weeks… as Thiago Silva returns to Brazil and Loris Karius and his TV host partner head for Dubai

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa was forced to scrap his plans for a short break after being called up to the England squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Konsa was due to travel to Dubai with his partner Ronni for some winter sun, giving the defender time to rest ahead of the busy festive schedule.

The centre-back was instead given the call-up by Gareth Southgate after withdrawing from his squad ahead of the games against North Macedonia and Malta.

While a number of stars have been called up for international duties or have continued to train with the clubs, some have been given a short break from Premier League action for two weeks.

Dubai appears to be the favored destination, with Newcastle goalkeeper Loris Karius having traveled to the United Arab Emirates.

Karius and his partner Diletta Leotta, an Italian television presenter, made the most of their time with their daughter, with the couple welcoming their first child last year.

Former Manchester United star Fred also traveled to Dubai with his wife Monique Salum and their son Benjamin.

Fred now plays for Turkish side Fenerbahce, who reached the international top of the Turkish Super Lig.

The midfielder has missed the last two games due to injury, ruling him out of Brazil’s squad for the World Cup qualifiers.

Fred uploaded a video of the controversial Fame Park zoo in Dubai, which has been visited by several footballers in recent years.

The RSPCA has previously criticized the private park, with the animal welfare charity warning against the use of wild animals for ‘public entertainment’.

Another Brazilian star Thiago Silva has not played for his country since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 39-year-old still remains a crucial part of the Chelsea team despite his advancing years.

Silva made the most of his free time by returning to Brazil with his wife Belle Silva to spend time with family and friends.

Luton Town star Ross Barkley took his break locally, with the midfielder uploading a photo of him in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Barkley had spent the previous season in France with Nice and made 27 appearances in his only season with the Ligue 1 side.

The 29-year-old will be looking to play a key role in Luton’s chances of survival after joining the Premier League’s new boys this summer.

The Hatters went into the international break in the relegation zone, three points from safety.

Players will have just a short reprieve before returning to clubs to prepare for the resumption of the Premier League season on November 25, ahead of a busy festive period.
